Kinesio Taping

Chiropractic Care and Kinesiotape

Most people are familiar with the idea of 'taping' an injured ankle, usually with a bandage or restrictive tape of some sort.  However, not as many people are aware of the availability of Kinesio tape, also sometimes called muscle tape, sports tape or K-tape.  Here at St. Joseph Chiropractic, in St. Joseph, MO, we include Kinesio taping in our long list of ways to help you.

What is Kinesio Tape?

Kinesiotape is a product that is designed for maximum support with minimum restriction.  It is a strong, stretchy, sticky tape that is applied directly to the skin.  The effects differ depending on what it is being used for, but generally, it is used to support an injured body part while still allowing enough motion and flexibility to perform its normal function.

One of the reasons that this type of muscle tape is popular is that it does not require you to immobilize or severely restrict the movement of any part of your body.  Instead, the sports tape functions like an additional muscle or tendon, providing a supply type of strength rather than a concrete one.

How Can Kinesiotape Help Me?

Kinesiotape is used by professionals like our chiropractor to help people with a variety of injuries, pain management issues, and long-term disabilities.  In addition to restricting movement, Kinesio tape also helps in the reduction and control of inflammation.

While Kinesio Tape is safe for the majority of people, there are some contraindications.  Our chiropractor is the best person ask whether this is a good idea for your particular injury.
